Autobiography of Dora Hsu
Dora Hsu was born in1968 in Ping-Tung, in the southern tip of Taiwan. She started seeking the lord when, as a child, she attended a crusade with her mother for the first time. At age 18, she formally made the decision to follow the Lord through ICI extension courses. Then she started her church life at the Taichung First Assembly of God Church.
Before she was saved, Dora had many overwhelming spiritual experiences, such as a missing purse being returned to the same location from where it was lost. She also experienced the fear of seeing ghosts at nights and then getting rid of the disturbance through prayer.
At the age of 20, she went north to study Applied Arts in Shi-Chien University. During her school years, and while attending the Assembly of God Abundant Life Center, she was influenced by the then Senior Pastor, who was also a missionary, and developed in her heart the desire to become a missionary someday.
While commuting between Taipei in Taichung, she decided to live with her family n Taichung, where she worked for a Wedding Photo Studio and, later, an Art Design Company. During that time, she worked with her employer to develop Natural Material’s with frame design, the mass production system which subsequently generated a trend in Taiwan’s Interior decoration market. Two years later, she quit her position in that Art Design Company and went to work with her brother to expand his Art Gallery, further developing her love for the creative arts. This led to her having her first Art Show in The Gate Gallery in Taipei, being interviewed by ARCH Magazine, and having her photographic work recognized in art exhibitions hosted by Global View Monthly Magazine and the Eslite Bookstore. Even though she had all these seemingly admirable achievements, she made her decision to devote her life to service to God, because she found a void in her heart that simply could not be filled with these worldly achievements.
The fact that her family runs an incense business has created constant spiritual struggles for Dora. She has endured many rigorous family arguments just because she wanted to serve God, her mother’s opposition being particularly strong. Through the encouragement and prayers of the Korean Missionary from her home church, she participated in a Disciples’ Rally in Korea and prayed specifically for ways to serve God and for the relationship with her mother. During the rally, she received confirmed answers. God performed wonders and her relationship with her mother changed drastically. Even though she had an argument with her mother the day before she was scheduled to take her seminary entrance exam, on the day of the test her mother was happy to drive her to the test site. On the day she moved into the seminary dormitory, her mother tearfully saw her off, but also acknowledged that Dora belonged to God. For Dora, this further confirmed God’s calling.
Encouraged by the Dean of the Seminary, she worked hard to finish her course work in three and half years. These three and half years were filled with God’s provision and presence; He gave her the wisdom and perseverance her circumstances reqwuired. Even during the most difficult times, He strengthened her with countless blessings. Having served her internship at Agape ICA, she then was granted the privilege to continue to serve in Agape ICA after graduation. She is specially burdened for young people, and has committed all the talents God has given her to his service.
Although she seems to enjoy a stable and tranquil life now, her heart is still restless with the desire to preach the Gospel. She is still praying fervently to God as to where He will lead her to serve. She keeps her heart open, allowing God to guide her footsteps and serving Him with all her life!
