The Dangers of Taking Away or Tampering with the Word of God

God spoke in His Word in the book of Genesis Chapter 2, verses 16, and 17. "And the Lord God commanded the man, 'You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die.'

Eve made a mistake in adding to God's Word. She added, "neither shall ye touch it." Eve then altered God's Word, "lest ye die". She omitted part of God's Word, "thou shall surely die."

We know the results of these mistakes. Adam and Eve were put out of the Garden of Eden with the entrance of sin.

The Book of Proverbs 30:6 says "Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar." This is a strong warning.

The Book of Revelation ends with this strong admonition: Revelations 22:19 "And if anyone takes words away from this book of prophecy, God will take away from him his share in the tree of life, and in the holy city, which are described in this book."

Adam Clarke in his Commentary says, "If any man shall lessen this meaning, curtail the sense, explain away the spirit and design of these prophecies, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, etc."

This is a warning from the Lord Jesus Christ Himself. It applies to such groups as the Mormons, and the Modern Theologians who deny the Divinity of Christ.

The Word of God is the stabilizer in Christianity, and in our individual lives. If we begin to tamper with the Word of God then the whole force of our Christian life begins to crumble, and we are left with an imbalance in our lives.

Our task is not to change, but to believe with all our hearts, and to apply the word of God to our daily lives so that we learn to really enjoy life.
