Main | Unique Ways God Speaks to Us - Part I »

2006-Apr-09 Palm Sunday

  1. Why is the Resurrection important?
  2. It Is One Of The Two Primary Doctrines Of The Gospels.

"Moreover brethren, I declare unto you the Gospel... how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; that he was buried, and that he rose again on the third day, according to the scriptures."

Life, ministry, death, burial, resurrection, the whole process is needed to make salvation complete.

    1. Leave out any key part and you have just another religious philosophy.

      1. What if God had created birds without wings; humans without legs, water without hydrogen.
      2. We say it's a bird because it flies; it's a person because it walks upright; it's water because it quenches our thirst.

    2. Leave out the resurrection and you have just another religion to add to the all ready crowded book shelves of our libraries.

  3. What did the Resurrection do for us?

  4. God Wanted To Demonstrate To Us That Christ Was The Son of God.

    1. Sometimes humans do not want to believe something until they see a demonstration of the project.
      1. How many of you have ever bought a new car without first going on a demonstration drive?
      2. America was bringing World War II to a close in the Pacific. There were two ways to close the war with Japan. First, we could have invaded Japan proper causing great civilian and military losses. The second way was a horrible revelation of massive destruction of man made power that brought a quick end to the war. This was not equal to some of the power of earthquakes which sends tons of earth around the world. Crater Lake is an example from the past.

    2. This Resurrection of Christ was a demonstration that His death was of sufficient value to God to cover all our sins.
    3. Christ became the foundation stone on which the church was built.
      1. The first sermon preached after the outpouring of the Holy Spirit in Acts chapter 2 is almost entirely on the resurrection theme.  Acts 2:22-36.
      2. Peter from Solomon's porch of the Temple mentions in Acts 3:15 "but put to death the Prince of life, the one whom God raised from the dead, a fact to which we are witnesses."
      3. Hardly a sermon preached by the early apostles did not mention the resurrection. Acts 4:33 summarizes the entire early ministry of the apostles: "And with great power the apostles were giving witness to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and abundant grace was upon them all." There are at least 20 other passages which speak about the resurrection (demonstration).

It is said, "Jesus is known in heaven and feared in hell."
