Jesus put it this way in John 15:5

‘Apart from me you can do … nothing.’

We can (and should) do more than pray after we have prayed, but we cannot (and should not) do more than pray … until we have prayed.

I Thessalonians 5:17

ESV – Pray without ceasing.
