RELIEF GOODS to pastors in the Philippines MULTIPLIED!
On March 14, the Philippines went into national lockdown due to COVID-19. The initial hope was to lift the lockdown on April 15, but instead it was extended an additional 11 weeks. As we began to receive reports of the great hardship this was creating for pastors in a particular area of southern Mindanao, Agape ICA sent 30,000 NT (USD1000) from our missions crisis fund to provide food for 30 pastors and their families.
With these funds, the pastor overseeing the purchase and distribution of the relief goods was able to deliver dried fish, fresh vegetables, 25 kilos of rice, a 30-count tray of eggs, and one frying hen. When a local pastor with a farm saw what was being done to bless other pastors, he added another 150 kilos of cassava (a durable root crop). What a great additional blessing!
Regarding the hens, the cost difference between a laying hen and a frying hen was too great (70% more expensive), so each family received one frying hen. In other words, a one-time-use chicken.
Then something amazing began to happen…
The day after the relief goods were distributed, one of the pastors with internet access sent a picture of their frying hen laying an egg! Then another pastor, then another and another reported the same thing! And the next day there were more reports of frying hens laying eggs! One pastor sent a picture of their hen that had climbed on top of the tray of eggs we had given and then deposited another egg! A pastor whose fryer is also now laying eggs said she had invested before in three laying hens that never produced any eggs. They ended up eating those chickens because they just cost them money to feed. As another pastor hand washed her clothes in a washtub on the ground, her fryer came up alongside of her and laid an egg by her hand. Special delivery!
The same God who provided oil for the widow of the prophet and her young sons in II Kings 4 is the same God who is providing eggs to these pastors in the southern Philippines!
